We, that’s you and I, are most likely stuffed to the gills after the festive season.
Am I right? well Yes and No … I get sick of the same thing like 3 tubs of Quality Streets, endless turkey and them green little balls of juiciness, well I’d never tire of them. Brussel Sprouts that is, they are divine and I could eat a bowl of them with a nob of Kerry Gold and lashings of salt.
Anyways back to food and I want to start this year off by sharing my favourite places for a coffee or cuppa accompanied by a homemade scone or scrumptious Nutella cup cake. Well then let’s kick off with the funky and oldy worldie cafe that is Monty’s which is located in Midelton, Co.Cork. Its kinda hidden so make sure you stroll down that little alley and you shall find it.
They stock Badger & Dodo coffee which is just splendid and the home baking is second to none. Friendly staff, a warm and cosy cafe with oodles of old world charm once you step inside. It is quite small but they also have outside seating. A return visit is already on the cards. Now I will get your mouth watering by showing you the menu below.
Next up is The Pepperstack in Lower Aghada, Midelton. This was my fourth visit and every single time has been a treat from the friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere to the exceptional food. The fish, well what can I say, in one word excellent. It’s not always easy to find good seafood which is actually cooked to perfection but they certainly have it spot on in this establishment. I adore fish of every kind and highly recommend the Monkfish, my god its bloody good. I actually licked the plate. On this occasion however I opted for the slow cooked Beef which was melt in the mouth delicious.
The value for money and the quality of the culinary skills beat a lot of 4/5 star hotel restaurants I’ve eaten in. Book a table asap for the weekend, I promise you wont be disappointed.
I just love food in general and dining out, discovering new places is such fun and something I love to do. I shall do regular posts on my favourite places to go for a cuppa or to dine out of an evening. If there are any places you’d like to recommend please do in the comments below.
